  <description>Composition 3: Volume I and Volume II

by Taped Rugs Productions

"Composition 3" was written by Charles Rice Goff III in 2004. It is basically a set of instructions for a performance or a recording which, through the inclusion of random elements, sounds different each time it is executed. Composition 3 was written to accommodate non-musician performers as well as skilled musicians. Both an " rtf " file and a " pdf " file of the instructions for Composition 3 are included in this archive. Goff encourages all interested artists to record or perform Composition 3 themselves.

The first seven recorded versions of Composition 3 were released to the public by Taped Rugs Productions on a CD entitled: "Composition 3, Volume I" in late 2004. As one might expect, each version, created by a different artist, sounds unique. However, all the different versions exhibit a continuity with each other, based on the identical plan that each follows for arranging its random elements.

In 2006, three more audio recordings of Composition 3 were added to the Taped Rugs collection. Until this archive posting was made, these recordings were not available to the public. They have been grouped together as "Composition 3, Volume II." All ten audio recordings of Composition 3 are presented in this archive. There hopefully will be more volumes created and made public in the coming years. Presented here are:
