WHAT BAPTISTS BELIEVE

19. RIGHTEOUS AND WICKED

We believe that there is an essential and scriptural difference between the righteous and the wicked, the saved and the unsaved; that only those born again and justified by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are truly righteous in God's sight; that those who continue in impenitence and unbelief are wicked in His sight and under condemnation; that all who are ever saved by faith in Christ out of every age of time dwell with Christ forever and the unbelieving or lost of all ages of time, along with the devil and his angels, will be in eternity forever in the Lake of Fire. (Ma13:18; Prov 12:26; Rom 6:16; Rom 1:17; Rom 7:6; Rom 6:18-22; 1 Jn 2:29; I Jn 3:7; I Jn 5:19; Gal 3:10; Jn 3:36; Prov 14:32; Prov 10:24; Luke 16:25; Jn 8:21-24; Rev 20:15).

1) Scriptural Distinction between Righteous and Wicked

Mal 3:18 "discern between the righteous and the wicked" One that serves God & one does not This distinction holds till death, in death & after death and is made known to all at the judgment Prov 14:32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death

2) Separation Day

Begins at the day of salvation                                                                                  -

Then is coming a day of separation between the righteous and the wicked in death, rapture or judgment (Matt 25:31-46)

3) Saved (or the Righteous)

John 3:14-18,36  John 5:24 Passed from death unto life when we believe in Christ

No longer under condemnation Rom 8:1 (1 Jn 2:29, 1 Jn 3:7)

The saved are made righteous through Jesus (II Cor 5:21) He suffered for us (I Pet 3:18)

Our sins forgiven as He paid the price. (Ps 103:12-He removed our sin & Is 43:25-Blotted out sin)

For the believer to be absent form body (in death) is to be present with the Lord (II Cor 5:8) 1 Thes 4:16,17 He is coming for the believer to take us to heaven Our bodies shall be changed I Cor 15:51-58 & Phil 3:20,21

We will appear at the Judgment seat of Christ (II Cor 5:10, Rom 14:10-13)

We are not being judged for sin at the judgment seat, the sin was judged at Calvary. We are being judged or giving an account of our works (deeds) in this salvation God has given us. Some will be rewarded, some will be ashamed and suffer loss of reward. But all who appear here are the saved.

4) Sin-Sick (the Lost or the Wicked)

John 3:14-18,36 He that believeth not is condemned already Condemnation means to pronounce guilty & sentence accordingly

John 8:24 Jesus said "if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins"

When the wicked die they go Hell

Mk 9:48 Where the worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched

Lk 16:23 The torment of the flames of hell Hell is a place of no hope or sympathy. It is too late Rev 20:10-15

The wicked shall I day be resurrected (Jn 5:29) and stand before God ( Rev 20:10-15) The wicked, the lost will be judged at the great White Throne Judgment 1) No hiding place

2) No value in who you were (great or small)

3) No excuse "book of life" opened showing your opportunity to be saved was wasted

4) Not without punishment (Lk 20:47 speaks of greater damnation) this is degrees of punishment

5) No appeal... there is no higher court or power

Rom 8:31 Who is he that condemneth ? It is Christ that died. I am glad that Jesus Christ is my Saviour
